To the Members of Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation,
I want to speak directly to our community about the direction we are taking as a Nation and the standards we are putting in place to move forward in a strong, professional, and unified way.
As Chief, my responsibility is to ensure that our governance, administration, and leadership practices are operating at a level that truly serves our people today and for future generations. This means strengthening how we communicate, how we make decisions, and how we work together as leadership.
We are living in a time where federal and provincial governments are quietly shifting priorities and reducing funding across multiple departments and programs that our communities rely on. These changes may not always be clearly stated, but their impacts are felt directly by our people. Because of this reality, it is more important than ever that our Nation is organized, strategic, and united, with a clear plan for sustainability, growth, and long-term prosperity.
Moving forward, we are establishing regular leadership meetings and clearly scheduled opportunities for community members to participate in discussions that affect our Nation. Open communication and consistency are essential to trust, and good governance, especially when external pressures continue to increase.
A key priority will be the development of a new Community Comprehensive Plan, guided by the voices, needs, and priorities of our members. This plan will serve as a roadmap for economic development, housing, services, and infrastructure, ensuring that our decisions are community-driven and not dictated by shifting outside policies or funding cycles.
Our focus must be on uplifting the spirits of our people and creating real opportunities within our own Nation. This includes working toward better housing, increasing cash flow within households, supporting community-based entrepreneurship, and building long-term wealth that stays within Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation. Economic growth must benefit families directly and strengthen the community.
At the same time, we carry a sacred responsibility to care for our elders and to support those who are compromised or vulnerable. Growth must be balanced with compassion, respect, and protection for those who hold our knowledge, our history, and our teachings.
Clear, written notices and communications will be strengthened so that community members are properly informed and there is no room for confusion or misinterpretation. Decisions and announcements must reflect collective leadership, not individual action and must be communicated in writing so that clarity, accountability, and transparency are maintained.
In this environment, it is extremely important that Council and myself, as Chief, work together without conflict or controversy, and with a shared commitment to unity and professionalism. Strong collaboration among leadership is essential to ensure that our community members receive the best care, representation, and service from those entrusted to lead.
It is also essential that leadership and administration work together to ensure that reports are completed and submitted properly, and that all departments operate at a professional standard. Strong internal systems and accountability are necessary to enhance service delivery and to protect the Nation’s interests in an increasingly complex environment.
I am working diligently to advance multiple areas of growth and expansion that will improve services, create opportunity, and secure a stronger future for our community. This work requires unity, shared responsibility, and a commitment to putting the collective well-being of our people first.
Our people deserve clarity.
Our community deserves consistency.
Our future depends on unity, preparedness, and long-term vision. WITHOUT PREJUDICE
